Video Consent Information
What Do You Get for Submitting a Video?
You will be able to win WAY MORE #QUEERY BUCKS to enter the raffle EXTRA TIMES for one of 100 electronic gift cards ($25.00 value) to Amazon or iTunes or one of the iPad Minis. You will also be entered into a special iPad Mini raffle just for participants who submit a video. Your entries into the raffle are completely separate from the video submission. All you need to do is enter an email address. If you win an iPad, we will help arrange to ship it to you safely.
The video submission will take about 15 minutes. We are asking for video or audio recording from queer youth so they can share more about their experiences online without having to type a lot more.
If you only wanted to do the survey – that’s OK! Just close this window. You may sign up to find out about the study results by joining our mailing list on our website or following us online!

What are the Risks?
There are a few risks to submitting a video. You may feel uncomfortable or upset when telling us about your experiences. If you feel uncomfortable, you may stop recording at any time. A list of resources was available at the end of the survey, or you may contact us to receive more resources.
You do not have to show your face in the video. You can just record your voice or film something else (like your wall) while you’re talking.
If you’re worried about how to keep your online activities private, Kids Help Phone has a great website!
Keep It Private
What are the Benefits?
There are no direct benefits to you. But you will be able to share your personal experience through participation, and may feel good about doing so. This study will help the research team to learn more about queer youth, and help us understand what they are doing online
How Will We Keep Your Answers Safe?
The video security is very safe, and all the information we get will be private. But, this research record may be reviewed by government agencies, authorized outside individuals, or the Institutional Research Ethics Board (the committee that oversees all research at the University of Toronto). We will delete your video after data analysis is complete. Only members of the research team will have access to the information you give us.
Do You Have To Submit a Video?
You do not have to submit a video. We will never tell anyone any information about you.
This study is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
If you would like to submit a video, please press the Agree Button. Any information you give will only be used for research and your comments will remain anonymous confidential at all times. Anonymous means you don't share who you are. Confidential means whatever you share with us is safe.
If you have any questions, please email use at projectqueery@gmail.com.
Thank you for your participation!
